THE PROJECT
The Havieron Project, being developed by Newcrest and Greatland Gold, is one of the largest copper-gold deposits to have recently been discovered in the Patterson region of Western Australia.

Rockwater was engaged to provide hydrogeological consulting services for the Havieron Project. This involved characterisation of poorly-known aquifers within the thick Permian overburden using packer tests, pumping tests, nuclear magnetic resonance surveys, core logging, and correlation with geotechnical datasets.
All data were incorporated into a Leapfrog geological model. The Leapfrog model was used to construct a MODFLOW groundwater model, which was used to predict inflows to an exploration decline and bore yields for water supply.
The FloPy package was used for creating, running, and post-processing the MODFLOW model. Using FloPy, Monte Carlo simulations were run to provide probabilistic estimates of inflow into the decline and assess the environmental impacts associated with groundwater extraction.
